Today we went smallmouth bass fishing on the Cloquet River. It was one of those gorgeous summer days when the weather was perfect, the fishing was great, and the scenery was beautiful. Our trusty old Grumman canoe even got us through the rapids (on
very low water) without catching up on too many boulders.

Fish on!

Smallmouth bass.

Poster-child for the endangered species act.

A bigger smallmouth bass. Unfortunately, this guy swallowed the Rapala, so instead of throwing it back like all the others, we kept it for dinner.

My favorite fishing guide and paddling partner. :)

Beautiful summer day on the river.

Another nice smally.

And another one.

A hog!! Check out the girth on this fish! It is almost as wide as it is long.

Paddling to our take-out point. I think this bridge must have been an old railroad bridge that was converted into a highway bridge.
