Abby comes for a visit

This past weekend, John's youngest sister, Abby, came and stayed with us for a couple of days. We were also pleasantly surprised when his aunt and uncle, Lisa and Eric, called us as they were driving through Duluth on their way back to the cities. We all met up in West Duluth and went hiking to the top of Ely's Peak.

Unfortunately, Nora found a porcupine on her way back down. Those things must stink because she smelled it from some distance and took off to chase it down. Luckily, we heard her barking and John was able to reach her before the porcupine had done much damage. She was pricked by about a dozen quills, but all were superficial and easily pulled out by hand (thankfully, she only smelled the porcupine rather than trying to eat it). Hopefully the experience was painful enough that she learned her lesson and will stay away from future porcupines!

Next we visited Enger Tower (or "Anger Tower" according to Abby)

We finished off the tour by visiting Chester Park and admiring the falls. Chester Creek is usually a small creek but with all the rain we've received, the falls had a substantial amount of water flowing over.

I guess John got all the tall genes in the family? I know I met Abby at your wedding but didn't remember such a big height difference!

Lilia can't wait to meet Nora.

We will try to keep those darn old porcupines away from Nora while she is here over the weekend.

Great pictures....thanks!
