Weekend Trip to the Superior National Forest

This past weekend, we made a trip up to the Superior National Forest to take advantage of the last weekend before trout stream fishing closed for the season.

Unfortunately, we found the rivers to be virtually void of water. This is the mouth of the Kadunce River, which wasn't even flowing out to L. Superior.

We thought about fishing at the mouths of the streams...thinking perhaps the salmon were stacked up in L. Superior waiting for a big rain so they could run up the rivers. But 3-4' waves kept us from trying. We ended up fishing on some trout lakes and hooked into two very nice rainbow trout. We landed one ~15". Too bad I forgot the camera so I couldn't take a pic.

We also took advantage of the fall scenery, and enjoyed camping at Kimball Lake. At night, we heard wolves howling, great horned owls hooting, and loons bellowing. We also saw two moose and a fox.

On the way home we hiked up to the top of Oberg Mountain.

Oberg Lake and pretty fall colors.

I wish I could've seen that stuff...there were no fall colors here. Just mud.
