Black Bear Sighting!
Last weekend, I was walking in the woods behind our house when I looked over and saw a gigantic black dog. I suddenly realized it was much too big to be a dog and that it was a black bear (fairly decent size from what I could tell)! It was about 100' away, and I watched it disappeared behind a berm. I got a little closer to try and get a better view, but it looked like it had bedded down in a depression, and I didn't want to walk to the top of the berm to find out (even though black bears aren't inclined to attack humans, I didn't want to scare the beejeezers out of it and find out what its response would be). I didn't have my camera with me, but it looked something like this:

You be careful around those critters !!!
You never know when a bear has cubs around. I suppose this time of the year they are very hungry and thus are checking out possible food around town.

Funny, the time I spotted a black bear, I too thought it was a big black dog until I saw it loping across the road with a distinctly non dog-like gait (that, plus at some point it became clear that it was just too big to be canine).
