Kyle Joseph is here!!!

I have a sleeping babe in my lap, so I'll keep this brief...

at 9:13 a.m. on 2/11/11, Kyle Joseph Sandberg was born!  He weighed in at 8 lbs. 6 oz., 20.25" long, and had a head circumference of 14.25".  Interesting factoid - only about 5% of babies are born on their due dates - but both Paul and Kyle were born on theirs (Paul: 2/9/09; Kyle: 2/11/11).  As John so kindly pointed out DURING labor, "I don't understand how you can be so punctual when it comes to having babies, and so late for everything else".

The labor went very well overall - we arrived at the hospital at 3:30, so things progressed fairly quickly throughout the labor.  My contractions stayed about 4-5 minutes apart the entire labor, so even though they increased in intensity in later stages, I felt that they were manageable with a nice break in between.  I labored mostly in the jacuzzi tub and then transferred to the birthing tub for the pushing stage - which only lasted about 4 or 5 contractions and then Kyle Joseph was here!!!  No hemorrhaging this time and my recovery should be relatively brief - I already felt good enough to take the dog out for a walk the other evening.

Kyle is a laid back baby so far, but since he takes this approach to nursing as well, he is a bit jaundiced so I am trying everything I can to keep him awake long enough to eat well.

Otherwise, everything else is going as well as we can hope for - Paul is generally enthusiastic about "Baby Kyle".

Time to grab a bite of lunch and then attempt to get this baby to wake up long enough to eat a bit himself.  Here are some pics:

 Just born!!!

Looks an awful lot like big brother Paul did at birth

Baby Kyle may have little hands, but it looks to me like he has a big head. Congratulations again on the good work!!

Congratulations on the birth of your new son, Kyle! I remember Jennifer having a difficult time trying to keep Sarah a wake to fed her! In fact, both her daughters wanted to sleep more than they did eat! Have fun with him!
