Reasons I am against using corn and soy for biofuels, and ticked off at the government (especially in Minnesota) for promoting ethanol production from row crops:
1. CRP land is increasingly being converted to corn and soy crops;
2. Ethanol production is drawing down the groundwater supply in many areas;
3. Corn and soy produced for ethanol requires large applications of herbicides and fertilizer, not to mention all the water needed for irrigation;
4. Ethanol produced from corn requires almost as much fuel as is produced;
5. Latest research indicates that as soon as land is converted from food production to fuel production, more land is cleared for food production elsewhere in the world.

I've been thinking about this problem a lot recently, and I agree. I think people are trying to solve the wrong problem. Electric vehicles will be the future, with our infrastructure changed to support them.
