Paddling the Pine River

Yesterday, John and I paddled eight miles down the Pine River, starting in the city of Pine River and taking out at Whitefish Lake. It was a pretty paddle and we saw lots of wildlife, including deer, bald eagles, a hawk, and lots of turtles. The fish were a bit scarce, but we did catch some bluegill, largemouth bass, a rockbass, and a creek chub. Nora was a good canoe dog, and she seems to do better with each trip. She'll get more practice this upcoming July 4th weekend, when we paddle/camp the Namakagan River in Wisconsin.

Where are the fish, Nora?

Did you get some nice fillets off of that creek chub?

out of curiosity - where were the old bridge ruins? Any idea what type of bridge used to be there?

Allison,

Out of pure speculation, I would guess it was an old railroad bridge, but I really have no idea. The bridge was over the Pine River, about two or three miles upstream of Whitefish Lake. Sorry I don't have more info for you.

Seems like a pretty good guess then!
