I'm currently out on a Lake Superior research cruise. They recently added cell phone internet access to the 75' research vessel that we are on, so it is nice to be able to check my email once in awhile and feel, well, not quite so isolated out here. Technology is amazing, eh?
We have been fortunate to have calm seas so far, although a line of showers and thunderstorms are supposed to move in later today. We were up most of last night (until 3:30 a.m.) trawling and conducting zooplankton tows. I was the big winner on the trawl catch...I predicted that we would haul in 64 fish after an hour of trawling at 25 meters deep and we caught 65! If I wasn't in the middle of Lake Superior, I would have gone out and purchased a lottery ticket.
Hopefully someone will wake up in a little while and take over so I can go take another nap. Sleep, eat, conduct research...that's about the extent of a research cruise. I think the "cruise" part is false advertising.
I'll post some pictures once we are off the Big Lake.

Hello out there!
Hope the research is all fruitful and nothing, but very useful.
At least you shouldn't have to worry about getting norovirus, like on the "real" cruise ships . . . heh . . .
Sleep, eat, "conduct research". Sounds like my every day!
