Blizzard Warning!

Yes, you read that correctly--here in Duluth, we are currently under a blizzard warning. Duluth has experienced only two blizzards in the past six years, so this is a fairly big deal. From NOAA's website:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THURSDAY TO 7 AM CDT SATURDAY.

NORTHEAST WINDS GUSTING TO 40 TO 50 MPH...COMBINED WITH HEAVY SNOW...WILL RESULT IN A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HAZARDOUS WHITEOUT CONDITIONS FOR LOCATIONS NEAR LAKE SUPERIOR...INCLUDING THE TWIN PORTS. IN ADDITION TO SEVERAL HOURS OF NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY...SIGNIFICANT DRIFTING OF SNOW IS EXPECTED.

TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 16 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS...CAN BE EXPECTED.

You can track progress of this storm at NOAA's Duluth website. Don't forget to check out the harbor webcam. There should be some impressive waves rolling in by Friday, reaching heights of about 10 feet or so.

Ahhh...springtime in Duluth.
