Welcome, Paul Hayden!

Baby Paul has arrived! He made his appearance into the world (albeit somewhat reluctantly) at 8:03 a.m. on 2/9/09 (his due date!). He is a big boy--weighed in at 9 lbs. 4 oz., 21" long, with a 14.25" head circumference. It was a difficult labor and I pushed for 3.5 hours before being given an ultimatum by the Ob/Gyn that I had two more pushes or a c-section would be necessary. Fortunately, I was able to move Paul low enough on the first push that she was able to ease him out with forceps on the second push.

Paul is doing great! (On the other hand, it will take me a bit longer to recover from the delivery). He is a real cutie and his nickname is "Squeaky" for all the funny noises he makes. He has taken well to eating, too, earning him his second nickname, "Barracuda". I guess it shouldn't be a surpise that a child of ours would love to eat! :)

Thank you everyone for all your well wishes. I'll post a couple of pictures of our (not-so-little) guy.

Yep, he was a big baby!

Yeah! Congratulations! Welcome Paul! Sorry labor and his delivery didn't go as you'd hoped but I'm glad mom and baby are both well. Hugs!

Congrats Beth and John. He looks adorable. Looking at Paul, you couldn't tell he had such a difficult time coming out. I'm glad to hear you're all doing better now and are at home.

Johanna likes looking at the pictures of her new cousin: "Paul! Paul!" . . .
. . . but I have to admit that she's still more interested in the Nora pictures.

Hey, this little guy is already quite strong. He tries to lift his head up and he has one very tight grip.

I'll be getting him a fishing pole soon so he has something practical to hold.

What a gorgeous baby! I am so happy for you. All that waiting and laboring will soon be a blur - so write it down now if you want to remember it:-) Wish we were closer to come and visit in person. I remember when Halene was born, you guys were right there, ready to be supportive, John hogging all the baby holding time, and bringing us food and clothes... We are celebrating over here and wishing you lots of feeding, sleeping, diapering, and healing success!
