Ottawa Part II
Just returned from my trip to Ottawa and Chicago. I wanted to post a few pictures of Ottawa, which for a large city (p. ~700,000) was extremely clean, organized, and seemed very livable (reminded me of European cities in many ways). There were lots of bike trails and walking trails, many parks, multiple waterways, a large open-air market, and countless outdoor restaurants. Very little urban sprawl and I didn't see a single big-box realtor on the outskirts of the city. Even the mall was tucked away in a multistory stone building that fit the architecture of the rest of the city. I was surprised at the great diversity of cultures and ethnic restaurants, as well as very impressed with the openness and friendliness of the Canadians.

I'll have to put this on our short list for one of our upcoming adventures.
Very pretty. Luckily my MRI conference rotates through Montreal in a couple years...maybe I'll make the drive up there afterwards.
Looks like you didn't spend every minute of your trip at the conference . . . ;)
Ottawa is one of our favorite cities.
In winter (February) they have an venet called "Winterlude" with lots of "Ice Sculptures" (see links on our blog) and skating on the Rideau Canal. We have felt very fortunate enough to stay at the Chateau Laurier a number of times which sits on the edge of the Rideau Canal locks. One winter we visited and it was too warm for ice, another time we visited we skated five miles out along the canal to a lake and five miles back then went out to Gatineau Park to cross country ski. We should all try to meet in Ottawa sometime. In May they have the Tulip Festival.
Hope you are all doing very well!
